2-in (5-cm)-Diameter Dense-Phase Conveying Test Unit

PSRI’s dense-phase conveying test unit is 110 feet (33.5 m) long. It has been used to convey materials ranging in size from 10 microns to 3300 microns in diameter. The maximum solids flow rate through this unit is approximately 50,000 lb/h (22,700 kg/h).

1.5 in-(3.8-cm)-Diameter Dilute-Phase Conveying Test Unit

This facility is used to determine the effect of solids loading, gas velocity, elbow type, particle size, particle density, etc. on pressure drop and attrition in dilute-phase pneumatic conveying lines. It is extensively instrumented, and can measure the exact number of times that solids traverse the line. The unit operates at ambient pressure and at temperatures of up to 250F (122C). It has a line length of approximately 120 ft (36.6 m). It can operate at gas velocities of up to 200 ft/s (61 m/s), and at solids flow rates of over 5000 lb/h (2275 kg/h). Clear plastic viewing sections can be installed in the line to view the mode of flow in the system if desired.
